Eligibility

Below is a list of eligibility criteria for trainees in the ACCORDS Primary Care Research Fellowship.  Applicants must meet the following seven conditions:

1. Must be a physician (MD or DO), DDS, DMD, PharmD, or doctorally-trained non-physician (PhD or equivalent).
2. Per HRSA, the individual to be trained must be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment.
3. Must want to pursue an academic career with a focus on research related to optimizing primary care. 
4. Must not have any current or prior funding as a principal investigator at the R01 level or equivalent.
5. Must not have been previously funded by a T32 fellowship grant
6. Must agree to devote at least 75% of time to research training during fellowship training; clinicians may pursue clinical work related to their research for 25% of their time.  Trainees who leave the fellowship prior to two years of training may be subject to a payback agreement with HRSA.

Applications

We are recruiting four fellows now for a start date of either January 1, 2027 or July 1, 2027. We encourage applications by October 7, 2026 given that we hope to complete interviews and make acceptance decisions for both start dates by November 15, 2026.

Scholars must commit at least 75% dedicated effort to the fellowship each year.

Up to 3 letters of support that reference the applicant’s research accomplishments to date. *If your references prefer to submit their letters of support directly to the fellowship’s admissions committee, these can be submitted to [email protected]. In this case, on the application form, you can simply enter the name of your reference, their title, institution, relationship to you, telephone number, and email address.

The ACCORDS Primary Care Research Fellowship (APCRF) is committed to recruiting fellows with a passion to develop research ideas to impact community, clinical, economic and/or policy outcomes. Fellows’ research projects will involve primary care settings, teams, and/or community members.
