Data Informatics and Statistics Core (DISC)

The Data Informatics and Statistics Core (DISC) is dedicated to advancing health services and outcomes research through the development and application of innovative statistical methods. Our core mission is to engage in original, high-impact research that addresses critical challenges in health policy, patient care, and healthcare systems. We foster a collaborative environment that supports interdisciplinary research and provides expert guidance on study design and data analysis. Additionally, we are committed to mentoring and empowering early-stage investigators to cultivate the next generation of leaders in health services research and biostatistics.

We are a team of master’s and doctoral trained biostatisticians. Our team consists of 15 data analysts and four faculty biostatisticians. We contribute to over 100 research projects and 40 grant applications annually. Meet our team here!

DISC Team members

Our goals are to provide biostatistics expertise as collaborators on original research projects, to pursue original research in biostatistics and study design, to lead data coordinating centers for multi-site trials, and to mentor the next generation of health services researchers and biostatisticians.

Our areas of expertise include:

  • Pragmatic Trial Design: Specializing in cluster randomized trials, stepped-wedge designs, and adaptive trials.
  • Database Development & Design: Building robust, research-ready databases tailored to the needs of clinical and health services research.
  • Trial Monitoring: Monitoring the performance of ongoing trials, including enrollment monitoring and milestones reporting, ensuring protocol adherence, and data quality assurance.
  • Advanced Statistical Analysis: Expertise in longitudinal data, missing data methods, repeated events modeling, time-to-event analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning.
  • Large Healthcare Datasets: Skilled in managing and analyzing complex datasets from electronic health records, claims data, and registries.
  • Data Coordinating Center Leadership: Proven experience leading multi-site studies and managing the full lifecycle of data coordination.
  • Mentorship: Committed to training and mentoring the next generation of researchers in sound statistical practices.
