Dr. Scherer received a PhD in social psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine and Ann Arbor VA. She was an Assistant Professor at University of Missouri Department of Psychology before moving in 2018 to pursue a focus on medical decision making research at the University of Colorado. Her research lies at the intersection of behavioral science, decision-making and medicine, and seeks to understand patient preferences, healthcare seeking vs. avoidance, and how to facilitate shared decision making and improve communication between doctors and patients. Methodological expertise: survey research, experimental design, measurement scale development and validation.
